ISO 14644 Standard: Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments - Part 4: Design, construction and start-up

ISO 14644-4 specifies requirements for the design and construction of cleanroom installations but does not prescribe specific technological or contractual means to meet these requirements.

This standard is intended for purchasers, suppliers and designers of cleanroom installations and provides a checklist of important parameters of performance. It also provides guidance for construction, including requirements for start-up and qualification.

The stages of design and construction necessary to ensure satisfactory continuous operation are identified through consideration of relevant aspects of operation and maintenance.

The application of this standard is limited to the following issues:

User requirements are stated or defined by the customer.
When the cleanroom installation process is not specified, it is recommended to provide a separate process.
Fire and safety regulations are not specifically considered; appropriate national and local requirements must be followed.
Process media and utility services are only considered through the route between and within different cleanliness zones.
For initial operation and maintenance, only requirements specific to cleanroom construction are considered.
